Robert Mittringer works with „poor, ordinary“ materials like cardboard, wood, brick and glue, gets his inspiration for his timeless socio-critical comments from objects found in the nature or casted away and dumped by civilization. He recognizes his message in the waste products, which he models gently and transforms it by celebrating the characteristics of the material.
Robert Mittringer is even taken by these contingencies of the signs of usage at the surface of the waste materials. He combines used materials obsessed with the details, paints them with common colours in combination with soil, brick-dust, ash and/or sawdust, his colours of the evanescence. Several of these fragile cardboard objects are molded in metal in order to make it durable, resistent. The refined package sculptures obtain the striking verification of value of the artwork - with his intended picture-formative signature - through the material waste.
The sculptor and painter has been influenced by his experiences in childhood and youth and so are his preferences to fill up everyday objects with new contents. Robert Mittringer demonstrates with every artwork the preciousness of existence - stopping the nature respectively the product circulation.
The minimalist objects are staged in pairs or in groups, correlated through repetition, without explaining titles, to control the trains of thought and fantasies of the viewers under no circumstances.
The autodidact Robert Mittringer, co-founder of the artist collectives „Donauhunde“ and „K5“, member of the artist group MAERZ, was awarded the „Kunstwürdigungspreis“ of the City of Linz and the „Oberösterreichischer Landeskulturpreis“ of Upper Austria. His artworks enrich national and international collections.
