04/2009 WaldRaum
April 3 – June 6, 2009

The ZS art opening exhibition “WaldRaum” can be considered a programmatic manifesto being this first show evidently characterized by the main ZS art principles “connecting concepts“ and the “concentration on the preciousness of being“. Guido Zehetbauer-Salzer and Wolfgang Muthspiel seduce their audience into “the future’s memories of today’s paradise”.
Thanks to their personal artistic perception and language painter Guido Zehetbauer-Salzer and jazz musician Wolfgang Muthspiel interpret and illustrate the abundance of impressions and emotions the phenomenon “forest” offers as his gift.
Guido Zehetbauer-Salzer’s work as an artist has been influenced by the forest for years now. In his paintings he portrays the sublime beauty and preciousness of this world we are risking to lose – seeing the forest also as a synonym for the sense of all being. By means of formal reduction to rough structures and an excessive use of colours he invites not only to share his expressive impressions of the forest-universe, but to partake in the ourselves: “I exaggerate [...] without betraying the character of the portrayed motive. [...] The authentic and empathetic rendition of the moment I experienced is the aim. My paintings want to capture a peaceful coexistence’s transcendence over time and space.“
In his sound-installation the internationally acclaimed jazz musician Wolfgang Muthspiel translates his own impressions of the forest’s nature into the universal language of music. Based on authentic field recordings, the sounds of strings and electronic instruments create an independent acoustic space which guides the listener into a state of inner silence – a condition usually generated only by the forest itself: “I engage with the forest theme not trying to imitate the sound of the forest. My music rather approaches the feelings the forest evokes within us [...] To create music which generates some kind of inner silence seems to me a prime ideal. An ideal the forest constantly succeeds in creating in his very own and special way.”
